Austria remains in eighth place in the EU innovation ranking
Austria has consolidated its position as one of the most innovative countries in the European Union. According to the latest "European Innovation Scoreboard" (EIS), the Alpine republic occupies eighth place, just as it did last year. This report is published annually by the European Commission and shows how well member states perform in the areas of research and technology.
The ranking evaluates various factors to measure a country's innovative strength. These include, among others, investments in research and development, the number of patents, and cooperation between universities and companies. Austria is classified as a "Strong Innovator" in this report, which means that the country is significantly above the EU average.
One reason for Austria's good performance is the strong support for small and medium-sized enterprises. Many of these companies regularly invest in new products and digital solutions. Government funding for science and technology also plays an important role in keeping the business location attractive for international investors.
Countries such as Denmark, Sweden, and Finland continue to lead the ranking. These nations are considered "Innovation Leaders." Although Austria maintains eighth place, experts believe there is still potential for improvement. In particular, Austria could become even stronger in the future in the areas of digital infrastructure and the training of skilled workers.
Overall, the result shows that Austria remains internationally competitive. For the Austrian economy, this eighth place is a positive signal. It illustrates that the country is well prepared for the challenges of the future, even if competition within the European Union remains intense.
