Gunman with e-scooter robs Vienna post office branch
A masked man robbed a post office branch in Vienna’s Liesing district on Tuesday afternoon, threatening an employee with a pistol before escaping with a large amount of cash.
The incident happened at around 2:30 p.m. when the man, wearing an FFP2 mask, entered the branch and confronted an employee. He pulled out a pistol and demanded money. The employee handed over cash worth a lower five-figure sum in euros.
The robber then fled the post office on an electric scooter, prompting a major police search. Numerous police officers were deployed as authorities began searching the surrounding area for the suspect.
However, his escape did not last long. Police managed to stop and arrest the suspected robber only a short distance from the crime scene. The quick arrest brought the large-scale search operation to an end.
Investigators also recovered the stolen money along with the suspected weapon. Police later determined that the gun was a blank-firing pistol, rather than a conventional firearm.
The incident is now being investigated by the authorities in Vienna. Despite using an electric scooter to make his getaway, the suspect was unable to get far before police caught up with him.
