Thunderstorm warnings and ongoing drought across Austria
Austria is under weather warnings again as extreme heat gives way to storms. Thunderstorm alerts are in place for several regions from midday, while an unusually dry July — rainfall about 53% below normal — has left rivers and groundwater at very low levels.
Nearly 90% of groundwater monitoring stations recorded low or very low levels at the end of July, and drought conditions continue to worsen.
