Culinary Arts in Austria: From Street Food Awards to Important Warnings
There is currently a lot of news regarding the topic of food and drink in Austria. While some businesses are celebrating great successes and setting new trends, there are also important warnings for parents. These days, Austrian culinary arts are showing both their modern and traditional sides.
The food truck team “Blackstreet Boys” achieved a major success. They won the Austrian Streetfood Award for the best food truck in the country. The company is a collaboration between businesses from Redlham and Schwanenstadt in Upper Austria. Furthermore, street food lovers can look forward to the year 2026: a large Street Food Market will take place in Klagenfurt, where over 100 different dishes from all over the world will be freshly prepared.
However, there is also serious news for families. The company HiPP has to recall certain jars of the “Carrots with Potatoes” variety. There is a suspicion that individual jars in Upper Austria could be contaminated with rat poison. Additionally, there are warnings about toxins in baby milk powder. A specific oil could be the cause of bacteria in the milk. Parents are asked to be particularly careful and to pay attention to current recall campaigns.
For lovers of traditional cuisine, the new book “Originals Only – Austrian Food from the Roots” has been published. Across 334 pages, it presents 50 businesses and their very special recipes. The book aims to show how versatile the local food culture is. Austrian cuisine is also popular internationally: an Austrian woman in the USA, now an influencer, inspires over 250,000 people with recipes for strudel and dumplings.
There is also positive news from the food industry in the business sector. The company “Austria Pet Food” in Pöttelsdorf, Burgenland, is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The company produces pet food for many large retail chains around the world. Due to its great success, the plant in Pöttelsdorf is now being expanded to be able to produce even more dog and cat food in the future.
These various developments show how important the topic of nutrition is in Austria. Whether it is about the safety of baby food, the success of regional companies, or the preservation of traditions – the quality of the products always comes first for the people in Austria.
