60-year-old woman arrested in Vienna after attacking husband
A 60-year-old Austrian woman has been arrested in Vienna on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly attacking her husband with a kitchen knife during a dispute at their home.
The incident took place in a single-family house in Vienna-Simmering. According to police, the woman allegedly attacked her husband with the knife, but he managed to evade the attack. He nevertheless suffered two cuts to his face before fleeing the house.
During the investigation, the man reportedly told police that the violence had allegedly started the previous day. He claimed his wife had attacked him with a fire poker, prompting authorities to take the latest incident particularly seriously.
After consulting with the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office, police ordered the woman’s arrest on suspicion of attempted murder. She initially fled the scene but was later located at a hotel in Vienna-Landstraße at around 6 p.m.
When officers arrested her, the woman had an estimated blood alcohol level of 1.6 per mille. Police also recovered a kitchen knife believed to be the weapon used in the alleged attack.
Authorities imposed a restraining and no-approach order against the woman, along with a temporary weapons ban. She was subsequently taken to a correctional facility while the Vienna State Criminal Police Office, South Branch, continued the investigation.
