Mother and daughter missing – now Mossad is coming to Vienna
A missing persons case in Austria has taken an international turn. According to http://heute.at, Israeli intelligence agency Mossad is now involved in Vienna in the search for a mother and daughter who vanished.
The two were reported missing after contact broke off. Austrian authorities have been investigating the disappearance for months, with suspicion falling on people in their close circle. During the investigation, police found signs that false trails may have been laid to mislead investigators.
The case gained new urgency when investigators discovered inconsistencies in statements made by a 55-year-old Austrian friend and work colleague of the woman. His 53-year-old brother is also a suspect. Authorities say the men tried to sell the woman’s furniture and jewelry shortly after she disappeared. Small transactions with her bank card were also flagged.
After months of surveillance, both men were arrested in June. It was only recently that the main suspect admitted there had been an accident and that he had hidden the bodies. Police then searched the brother’s apartment in Innsbruck and found the bodies of the woman and her daughter concealed in freezers behind plaster walls.
The Innsbruck public prosecutor’s office is treating the case as murder, not an accident. The motive has not been disclosed, but officials described the relationship between the woman and the main suspect as "difficult". Because the freezers were not running during detention, the bodies were severely decomposed.
With the case drawing international attention, Mossad officials have now arrived in Vienna to assist Austrian authorities.
