Half a million euros! Tax theft from a single family

Austrian authorities have uncovered a massive tax fraud scandal in Lower Austria, involving a family engaged in the scrap trade, which defrauded the state of over 500,000 euros through a complex network of fake invoices, suspicious cash transactions, and forged documents.

The company, which appears from the outside to be an ordinary commercial establishment in an industrial area, was hiding behind it a sophisticated tax fraud system that had lasted for years. Investigations revealed that the buying and selling of metals and their recycling were not entirely legal, but were marred by blatant violations.

The authorities found several forged invoices in the names of eight different individuals, in addition to cash deposit transactions whose sources cannot be traced. Worse, two-thirds of the supposed quantities of minerals were not supported by official weight documents, indicating that they were fabricated. The documents also contained signatures that did not match the provided identity data.

The family was unable to clarify the source of the funds used to build the company's facility, and the loans granted within the family did not meet the established legal standards. The situation worsened after discovering that two of the alleged partners used fake Rot-Weiß-Rot cards, in addition to the involvement of another relative of the management who has a criminal record in fraud cases.

Investigations indicate the existence of an organized tax evasion system, where one insider confirmed to the authorities that "everything was carefully planned." As a result, the authorities have obliged the company to pay corporate taxes and dividends with interest within a month. State Secretary for Finance Barbara Eibinger-Miedl (from the Austrian People's Party - VP) stated that this revelation demonstrates the state's seriousness in pursuing tax crimes, emphasizing that "fraud does not bring profit but punishment." Investigations are still ongoing, and additional legal actions may be taken. It is noted that the accused still enjoy the presumption of innocence.
