Before the Vienna elections: Hacker attacks the ban on refugee work!
Before the municipal elections in Vienna, city council member from the SPÖ party, Peter Hacker, made sharp and unusual statements, calling for a review of the work ban imposed on asylum seekers.
During the closing event of the election campaign at Lugner City, the Mayor of Vienna from the SPÖ party, Michael Ludwig, was expected to attend, but he sent instead Health Counselor Peter Hacker. Hacker called on all voters to participate in large numbers in the elections on Sunday.
Hacker pointed to the significant challenges faced by the city government, such as the Corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, explaining that Wien handled these crises efficiently. However, he emphasized the need to accelerate vocational training programs to avoid leaving tens of thousands dependent on social assistance (Mindestsicherung).
The hacker stated that he has always criticized the ban on asylum seekers from working. In his opinion, everyone living in Vienna should become part of the "solidarity community" from day one. Regarding the housing sector, the hacker praised the performance of the SPÖ party, noting that the party has proven its ability to deal with the changing real estate market with flexibility and new ideas.
In light of the government's austerity policy, which will also affect the city of Wien, Hacker called for smart measures instead of implementing random cuts. He emphasized that areas such as education and health should remain protected, and care should be taken to maintain economic stability and not harm it.
