Dismantling of a Hungarian gang behind 39 burglaries in Austria

Austrian police managed to solve a series of 39 burglaries in four federal states, leading to the arrest of three Hungarian citizens. The suspects, aged 20, 29, and 30, are accused of breaking into companies, museums, and vehicles between January and April 2025. The damages caused by the gang are estimated at over 250,000 euros. Investigators at the Schwechat Wiener Straße police station were able to identify the group after months of intensive work.

Some of the thefts involved dangerous escape attempts. At the end of March, two suspects fled from a robbery site in Gramatneusiedl at high speed, forcing the company's CEO and the police to jump to avoid a collision. Just days later, the two men were seen preparing to break into the railway museum in Strasshof an der Nordbahn. However, their escape ended in an accident when the 20-year-old suspect's car overturned in a roundabout in Gänserndorf, resulting in minor injuries.

The first breakthrough in the case came on April 15, when a 30-year-old suspect was arrested in Fischamend after being stopped by the police for speeding and driving without a valid license. The police found burglary tools inside his car. Meanwhile, his 29-year-old partner was serving a sentence in Eisenstadt prison before being later transferred to Korneuburg prison.

The youngest member of the gang, who is 20 years old, managed to evade capture until September 5, when Hungarian police arrested him following the issuance of a European arrest warrant against him. His arrest was made possible thanks to cooperation between Austrian and Hungarian authorities.

During the interrogations, the two men detained in Austria confessed to all the charges against them. The investigation was closely coordinated with the criminal office of Lower Austria, bringing an end to a series of crimes that lasted several months.
