Violent storms strike central Belgium
Last night, a series of violent storms swept across Belgium. This severe weather mainly affected the center of the country, causing concern among the population and local authorities. The disruptions began late in the evening and continued for much of the night.
Meteorological conditions were particularly intense in several provinces. The regions of Brussels, Walloon Brabant, and Flemish Brabant were the most exposed to these atmospheric disturbances. Torrential rain and frequent lightning marked this restless night, temporarily turning some streets into small streams.
Emergency services were in high demand throughout the night. Firefighters received numerous calls, primarily for flooded cellars or debris on public roads. Despite the intensity of the storms, authorities reported no serious injuries, which is a relief for emergency services and residents alike.
For the coming hours, the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) is calling for caution. Although the weather seems to be gradually calming down, new isolated showers remain possible in some areas. Citizens are advised to stay attentive to local forecasts and to check the condition of water drainage around their homes.
