Significant drop in the number of technical inspections in Belgium
The Belgian automotive sector is facing a surprising trend. According to the latest published data, the number of technical inspections carried out across the entire territory has recorded a significant decrease over the recent period.
In total, 50,658 fewer vehicle inspections were recorded in authorized centers. This decline concerns all vehicle categories combined, which is raising questions among authorities and mobility sector professionals.
Several factors could explain this decline. Among the hypotheses put forward, there is a change in the travel habits of Belgians, with increased use of public transport or teleworking, thus reducing the wear and tear and annual mileage of private cars.
Furthermore, the aging of the vehicle fleet and less frequent vehicle renewal by households, in an uncertain economic context, also play a role. Some owners may also be delaying the maintenance of their vehicles, although the technical inspection remains a legal obligation to ensure road safety.
Experts will continue to analyze these figures in the coming months to determine whether this is a lasting trend or a temporary phenomenon. In the meantime, inspection centers are reminding drivers of the importance of meeting deadlines to drive safely on Belgian roads.
