Major fire near the Belgian border mobilizes emergency services
A large-scale fire broke out today in a wooded area located in the Netherlands, in the immediate vicinity of the border with Belgium. The fire is currently spreading between the municipalities of Bergeijk and Valkenswaard, a region located not far from the Belgian province of Antwerp.
Local Dutch authorities have described the incident as a "very significant fire." Due to the geographical proximity, Belgian emergency services are monitoring the situation with particular attention, although the main seat of the fire remains localized on Dutch territory for the time being.
Firefighters are being deployed en masse to the scene to attempt to bring the flames under control. However, current weather conditions, marked by dry weather, are complicating the work of intervention teams who fear a rapid spread of the fire toward surrounding areas.
For the moment, the authorities have not reported any casualties. Residents of border municipalities are urged to exercise caution and to follow the recommendations of emergency services, particularly by avoiding travel to wooded areas near the border until the fire is under control.
