Product safety: new rules for hazardous mixtures in Belgium
The Federal Public Service (FPS) Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment recently reiterated an important obligation for businesses. Before placing a mixture considered hazardous on the Belgian market, manufacturers must notify the Poison Centre.
This measure particularly concerns products that present physical risks, such as flammable or explosive substances. The main objective of this procedure is to enhance consumer safety and allow for rapid intervention in the event of a domestic or industrial accident.
By declaring these products, companies allow experts at the Poison Centre to have access to precise information on the composition of the mixtures. This data is essential for doctors to provide appropriate care in the event of accidental exposure or ingestion.
This regulation is part of a European initiative to harmonize chemical safety. For Belgian companies, this is an essential step before any commercialization on national territory, thus ensuring better traceability of the chemical products present in our homes.
The FPS Health therefore invites all concerned professionals to consult the official guidelines to ensure compliance. This preventive approach is a fundamental pillar of public health protection in Belgium.
