Decathlon launches 're-lease' for used bicycles in Belgium
The sports retail chain Decathlon is introducing a new initiative on the Belgian market called 're-lease'. With this project, the company aims to give used lease bicycles a second life. The concept is simple: as soon as a bicycle's initial lease contract expires, the vehicle is inspected and subsequently offered again for a second lease period.
This initiative responds to the growing demand for sustainable mobility in Belgium. Many employees currently use a company bicycle, but it was often unclear what should happen to the used bikes once the contract ended. By putting them back into circulation, Decathlon hopes to extend the lifespan of the bicycles and reduce their ecological footprint.
For the consumer, 're-lease' offers several advantages. The monthly costs for a second-hand lease bicycle are generally lower than those of a brand-new model. Furthermore, Decathlon guarantees that every bicycle is thoroughly checked and made technically sound before it is rented out again. This allows customers to hit the road safely and affordably.
With this project, Decathlon is taking a step toward a more circular economy. The company hopes not only to stimulate the sale of new products, but also to contribute to a more sustainable transport policy for Belgian companies and their employees.
