Tesla autonomous cars authorized on Flemish roads
A new significant milestone for automotive technology has just been reached in Belgium. The Flemish Minister of Mobility, Annick De Ridder, has officially authorized the circulation of Tesla vehicles equipped with autonomous driving functions on public roads in Flanders.
This decision now allows owners of these vehicles to use advanced assistance systems in real-world conditions. The goal is to test the effectiveness of these technologies on the Belgian road network, while complying with current safety regulations.
However, this authorization does not mean that the driver can relinquish total control of their vehicle. Current legislation still mandates constant supervision by the driver, who must remain ready to take the wheel at any time in the event of an unforeseen situation.
Flemish authorities thus wish to encourage technological innovation while ensuring the safety of all road users. This pilot project will be closely monitored by experts to evaluate the impact of these systems on traffic flow and the reduction of accidents.
In the future, this initiative could influence mobility policies in the rest of the country. For now, interested drivers are invited to thoroughly inform themselves about the limitations and responsibilities associated with the use of these driving assistance tools.
