Belgian hockey continues to grow: quality more important than quantity
The sport of hockey in Belgium has become enormously popular in recent years. With 63,000 members now and national teams that rank among the absolute best in the world, the sport has grown into a permanent fixture in the Belgian sporting landscape.
Serge Pilet, the CEO of Hockey Belgium, looks back on this development with satisfaction. He emphasizes that the sport has been taken to a higher level in recent years. This success is partly due to the strong performances of the national teams, which are winning international awards in both the men's and women's categories.
Despite its great popularity, the federation wants to remain cautious about further expansion. Pilet indicates that the organization does want to grow, but not at any price. Maintaining the quality and values of the sport is paramount in all decisions the federation makes.
The future of Belgian hockey looks promising. The focus is now on further professionalizing the sport, while ensuring accessibility for new members remains guaranteed. In this way, the federation hopes to strengthen Belgium's position as a hockey nation in the long term.
