Heat: Staying Hydrated & Shooting in Montreal
This briefing highlights health precautions regarding high temperatures in Belgium and reports on a violent incident in Canada. We cover the risks for construction workers and the details of a deadly shooting in Montreal.
Outdoor workers, particularly roofers (specialists in roof maintenance), must stay hydrated to avoid heat stroke. In Bouillon, temperatures on roofs can climb as high as 50 degrees, making water and sunscreen indispensable even if one does not feel thirsty. These measures are essential to prevent serious workplace accidents related to extreme heat.
A shooting left three people dead on Monday in a Jewish neighborhood in Montreal, including a police officer and the suspect who was shot dead. The attack also wounded a female police officer during the law enforcement intervention. Canadian authorities have not yet specified the shooter's motives for this act, which took place in broad daylight.
