Decathlon Belgium introduces 're-lease' for second-hand bicycles
Decathlon Belgium has launched a new initiative called 're-lease'. With this project, the sports retail chain aims to extend the lifespan of bicycles and promote more sustainable business practices in our country. The concept is simple: bicycles that have already been leased are given a second life by being rented out again.
The system works as follows: as soon as a customer's initial lease contract expires, the bicycle is thoroughly inspected and refurbished by Decathlon's technicians. Afterwards, the bicycle becomes available again for a new lease contract. In this way, fewer new bicycles need to be produced, and customers can rent a high-quality bicycle at a more affordable rate.
This initiative aligns with the growing trend of the sharing economy and the circular economy in Belgium. More and more consumers and companies are opting for lease options instead of outright purchases. By putting used bicycles back into circulation, Decathlon hopes to further lower the threshold for bicycle use.
The 're-lease' service is now available in Belgium. Those interested can check the Decathlon website or visit physical stores to see which models are eligible for this second-hand lease program. It is a step that fits into the company's broader strategy to reduce the ecological footprint of their products.
