Tensions within the Senegal team after the match against Belgium
The football match between Belgium and Senegal during the 2026 World Cup has left its mark. While the encounter was followed closely by Belgian supporters, it primarily sparked a sharp reaction within the Senegalese team. Player Pape Gueye expressed his dissatisfaction after being substituted during the game.
The midfielder, who was celebrating his 45th national cap, did not hide his frustration regarding his coach's tactical choices. Having started in the first two matches of the competition, the player took this technical decision during the game against the Red Devils very poorly.
In a firm statement, Pape Gueye announced that he wished to take a break from the national team. He specified that as long as the current technical staff remains in place, he will no longer wear his national team jersey. This announcement creates a delicate situation for Senegal in the middle of the global tournament.
This event highlights the intense pressure weighing on players during this World Cup. For Belgian observers, this internal controversy within the opposing team is a notable event of the competition, illustrating the challenges of human management in high-level sports.
