CBD remains prohibited in food products in Belgium
The Federal Public Service (FPS) Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment recently reiterated an important rule regarding the consumption of CBD. In Belgium, as in the rest of the European Union, the use of cannabidiol (CBD) in food products is strictly prohibited.
This ban applies to all food products and nutritional supplements that contain CBD. According to health authorities, no CBD-based ingredient has received the necessary authorization to be marketed in the form of food or drink. Companies are therefore not permitted to sell these products to Belgian consumers.
Authorities explain that this decision is based on concerns related to public health. CBD is a substance extracted from cannabis, but without the psychotropic effects of THC. However, current scientific studies do not yet guarantee the total safety of its regular ingestion as part of a standard diet.
Consumers are advised to remain vigilant when making purchases, particularly online or in certain specialty stores. Products containing CBD should not be confused with authorized food supplements. For any questions regarding product safety, citizens can consult the official website of the FPS Health.
