Lidl introduces Scan&Go in Belgian stores for faster shopping convenience
The supermarket chain Lidl is starting a new way of shopping in Belgium. The company is introducing so-called 'Scan&Go' technology in several branches. With this system, customers can scan their groceries themselves while walking through the store, meaning they no longer have to stand in line at the traditional checkout.
The process is simple: customers use the Lidl Plus app on their smartphone to scan the barcodes of the products. Once they have finished shopping, they can go to a special payment zone. There, they only need to scan the QR code on their screen to complete the payment. This is intended to significantly speed up the shopping process.
With this innovation, Lidl wants to respond to the growing demand for efficiency and ease of use among Belgian consumers. The company hopes that the technology will reduce waiting times at the checkouts, which will ensure a more pleasant experience for both customers and store staff.
The rollout of Scan&Go fits into a broader trend in which supermarkets are increasingly focusing on digital tools. Other major chains in Belgium have also previously introduced self-scanning systems. Lidl will closely monitor the results of this new technology to determine whether the system will be rolled out to even more Belgian stores in the future.
