CBD remains strictly prohibited in food products in Belgium
The Federal Public Service (FPS) Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment recently reiterated an important rule for Belgian consumers: cannabidiol, better known as CBD, cannot be used in food products. This ban applies to all products sold commercially, whether they are standard foods or dietary supplements.
According to health authorities, no CBD-based ingredient has received official authorization for consumption. This decision is based on public health concerns. Indeed, the long-term effects of regular CBD ingestion are not yet fully understood, which leads experts to exercise caution.
This regulation applies at the European level. In Belgium, regular inspections are conducted to ensure that products sold in stores comply with these safety standards. Retailers are therefore required to remove any food product containing CBD from their shelves in order to protect citizens.
Consumers are advised to remain vigilant when making purchases, especially online. If you have any doubts about the composition of a product, it is recommended to consult the official FPS Health website to obtain precise information on the legislation currently in force.
