Threats in Turkey and fire alerts
The FPS Foreign Affairs is warning travelers of radical threats in Turkey, while Belgium prepares for an increase in vegetation fires. At the same time, Belgian fans are facing excessive travel costs for the World Cup, while the national basketball team has been eliminated from its qualification race.
If you are traveling to Turkey, vigilance is required throughout the territory. The FPS (Federal Public Service) Foreign Affairs reports that conflicts in Syria and Iraq are fueling significant radical threats that could affect the safety of Belgian nationals on site.
This caution also applies to the environment in Belgium. Greenpeace warns that the country will not escape the proliferation of vegetation fires, following a record year in 2025 when more than one million hectares burned in Europe. This situation could influence safety instructions in natural and rural areas during periods of high heat.
For sports fans, the budget required to support Belgium abroad is becoming a major obstacle. Prices for the World Cup are soaring, already forcing some supporters to shorten their trips due to a lack of funds. Furthermore, the Belgian Lions (the national men's basketball team) will not participate in the next World Cup after their defeat against France, ending their hopes of qualification despite a determined performance.
