Severe storms expected & deadly heatwave
Belgium is experiencing a day of intense heat this Sunday, marked by risks of severe weather phenomena at the end of the day. This heatwave is affecting a large part of Europe, causing significant excess mortality in France, while a major aviation accident has plunged the Nancy region into mourning.
Expect weather disruptions this afternoon with risks of hail and intense thundery showers across the entire country. While the coast remains sunny, temperatures will reach 32°C inland. These unstable conditions follow a period of extreme heat that has already caused more than 1,000 additional deaths in France since the middle of the week, primarily affecting seniors in their homes.
This heatwave extends beyond French borders, with absolute records recorded on Saturday in Germany (41.5°C) and the Czech Republic (40.6°C). Meanwhile, aviation safety is a primary concern following the crash of a skydiving plane near Nancy, in eastern France. The accident, which occurred during an introductory flight (a first supervised jump), claimed the lives of eleven people.
