Brussels: David Leisterh ends his attempts to form a government
It is a real bombshell on the Brussels political scene. David Leisterh, president of the MR in Brussels and designated formateur, has announced that he is giving up on forming a regional government. This decision marks the end of a complex process that had been dragging on for more than 500 days.
Since the last elections, negotiations to form a coalition in Brussels have proven particularly difficult. Despite his prolonged efforts to reach an agreement between the various parties, David Leisterh has failed to assemble a stable majority capable of leading the Belgian capital.
In his statement, the liberal leader highlighted his vision of politics. According to him, "to govern is not to cling on, it is to act." He believes that, in the current context, it is better to withdraw rather than continue discussions that do not lead to concrete action for the citizens.
This failure now raises many questions about the institutional future of the Brussels-Capital Region. Political observers are waiting to see what the next steps will be to unlock this unprecedented situation and finally allow the capital to have a fully operational government.
