Tensions within the Senegal team after the match against Belgium
The football world is in turmoil following the international match between Belgium and Senegal during the 2026 World Cup. While the match drew the attention of Belgian supporters, it is a tactical decision that is now causing much ink to flow within the Senegalese team.
Player Pape Gueye, who celebrated his 45th cap during this match, expressed his deep dissatisfaction after being substituted during the game. An undisputed starter in the first two matches of the tournament, the midfielder did not hide his frustration with his coach's choices.
In a strong statement, the player announced that he wished to take a break from the Senegalese national team. He specified that this decision was directly linked to the current management of the technical staff. According to him, as long as the current management remains in place, he will no longer wear his national team jersey.
This announcement creates a delicate situation for Senegal as the competition continues. For sports observers in Belgium, this affair highlights the significant pressures weighing on players and coaches during such a widely followed global event.
For the moment, the Senegalese federation has not yet officially reacted to these remarks. We will have to wait for the coming days to see if mediation is possible or if this rift between the player and his staff is final.
