CBD remains strictly prohibited in food products in Belgium
The Federal Public Service (FPS) Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment recently reiterated an important rule regarding the consumption of CBD. In Belgium, as in the rest of the European Union, the addition of cannabidiol (CBD) to food products is strictly prohibited.
This ban applies to all food products, including dietary supplements, beverages, and confectionery that might contain CBD. According to health authorities, no ingredient based on this substance has received official authorization to be marketed in the food sector.
Belgian authorities are expressing serious concerns regarding the effects of CBD on consumer health. In the absence of sufficient scientific studies validated by food safety agencies, the potential risk to citizens cannot be ruled out.
Consequently, food products containing CBD cannot be legally sold within Belgian territory. Consumers are urged to be vigilant and to check the composition of the products they purchase, while retailers must comply with these strict standards to protect public health.
