Heat records at 41.5°C & Lebanon agreement
Several European countries are recording historic temperatures as a peace agreement is signed in the Middle East. At the same time, the conflicts in Ukraine and nuclear tensions in Iran are marking international news.
Germany, Denmark, and the Czech Republic broke their heat records on Saturday, with peaks reaching 41.5°C. This heatwave is currently moving toward Northern Europe.
This meteorological situation coincides with a diplomatic breakthrough: Israel, Lebanon, and the United States have signed a framework agreement for a lasting peace. However, Hezbollah (the Lebanese armed group) has called the agreement void, while a projectile of unknown origin damaged a cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
While discussions progress in the Middle East, the Ukrainian front is focusing on logistics. Kyiv's army is bombing road and rail access to Crimea to deprive the area of fuel, while the Russian defense claims to have shot down several drones on their way to Moscow.
These military tensions echo the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program. Tehran has agreed to dilute its enriched uranium in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions by Washington, despite accusations of agreement violations following recent American strikes.
Added to these crises is a major natural disaster in Venezuela, where a new earthquake has struck the country. The provisional death toll stands at at least 1,430 dead and more than 50,000 affected people after the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors that occurred this week.
