81-year-old Belgian tourist found safe and sound after getting lost
An octogenarian from Lokeren had a frightening experience while out for a walk in the Voeren region. The 81-year-old man got lost in a wooded area while walking alone, losing his bearings in the forest.
Worried that he had not returned, emergency services were quickly alerted. A search operation was immediately launched by local authorities to find the hiker as quickly as possible, fearing for his health due to his advanced age.
After three hours of intensive efforts, police officers finally managed to locate the tourist. Fortunately, the man was found safe and sound. Despite the fatigue accumulated during those few hours of being lost, he was not seriously injured.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of caution when hiking, even for experienced walkers. Authorities advise hikers to always inform a loved one of their route and to stay on marked trails to avoid such situations in the future.
