Travel advisory: caution remains advised for Belgians in Turkey
The Federal Public Service (FPS) Foreign Affairs has recently reiterated its safety advice for Belgian citizens planning to travel to Turkey. Although the state of emergency in the country ended in mid-2018, Belgian authorities emphasize that the security situation still requires particular vigilance.
The risk of terrorist attacks remains a real concern within Turkish territory. According to information provided by the FPS, threats linked to radical groups persist, which may affect the safety of travelers in certain areas or during large gatherings.
Belgians currently in Turkey, or those planning to travel there soon, are strongly advised to regularly consult the official website "diplomatie.belgium.be". This portal allows users to track updates to travel advice by destination and stay informed about the latest security recommendations issued by consular authorities.
Finally, travelers are encouraged to register on the "Travellers Online" platform before their departure. This procedure allows the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to contact Belgian citizens more easily in the event of a major crisis or emergency on the ground, thereby ensuring better consular assistance.
