Another shooting in Brussels, one day after attack on police station

A man was shot again in Brussels on Sunday morning. The victim is not in life-threatening condition. According to initial findings, it is presumably drug-related violence.

The shooting follows shortly after an attack on the police station on Demosthenesstraat in Anderlecht. That building was fired upon with heavy weapons during the night from Friday to Saturday. No one was injured in that incident.

THE FIGURES BEHIND THE NEWS

The federal police recorded 57 shootings in the nineteen Brussels municipalities in the first seven months of 2026 alone. These incidents resulted in 2 deaths and 21 injuries.

For comparison: over the whole of 2025, there were 101 shootings, with 8 deaths and 43 injuries. If the current pace continues, 2026 threatens to be a record year once again.

The vast majority of these incidents are linked to drug trafficking, according to the police. Judicial investigations must still confirm this in each individual case.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Brussels King's Prosecutor Julien Moinil previously warned that, in principle, any Brussels resident could become the victim of a shooting. At the same time, in practice, these are predominantly settling of scores within the drug scene, where the perpetrator and victim know each other.

Are you a witness to a shooting or do you hear shots? Call 101 for the police or 112 for the European emergency number. Stay away and wait for emergency services.

The number of registered incidents is rising, but the number of victims is currently lower this year than in 2025.
