New battery technology for electric cars is coming to our region
There is important news for the future of electric driving in our region. From 2028, a new generation of batteries, the so-called 'solid-state battery', will be produced in Dunkirk. This city is located just twenty kilometers from the Belgian border, which could have a major impact on the Belgian automotive sector.
The solid-state battery is seen as a major improvement over the current batteries in electric cars. This new technology is safer, lighter, and can charge faster. As a result, electric vehicles will be able to cover greater distances in the future without having to stay at a charging station for long.
The French government is supporting this project with an investment of 1.375 billion euros in subsidies. The choice of Dunkirk as a production location is strategic. Due to the short distance to Belgium, the region can benefit from the knowledge and logistical possibilities present in our area.
Experts expect this development to change the market for electric cars in Europe. Belgium has strong assets to play a role in this new chain, such as the presence of specialized companies and good transport connections. The arrival of the factory in Dunkirk is therefore an important step for the entire region.
