Lawsuit against Disney+ could affect streaming quality in Belgium
Users of the streaming service Disney+ in Belgium may need to prepare for changes in image quality. The company InterDigital has once again filed a lawsuit against Disney, which could have major consequences for the way movies and series are offered.
The core of the conflict revolves around patents. InterDigital claims that Disney+ uses technology for which they hold the rights, without the appropriate compensation having been paid. This specifically concerns techniques required to stream images in the highest possible quality to televisions and other devices.
If the court rules in favor of InterDigital, Disney could be forced to temporarily lower its streaming quality. This would mean that subscribers in Belgium would no longer be able to watch their favorite content in the sharpest resolution. A similar legal dispute previously led to problems for other streaming services.
Disney has not yet responded extensively to the new lawsuit. For now, it remains to be seen how the legal proceedings will unfold and whether a settlement will be reached between the two companies. For the time being, the service remains available to Belgian customers just as they are used to.
