Public Health: a new campaign to better understand your care

The Federal Public Service (FPS) Public Health is soon launching a new national campaign in Belgium. The main objective is to improve "health literacy," which is the ability of every citizen to understand medical information in order to make informed decisions regarding their own health.

At the heart of this initiative is the method called "Ask Me 3." This simple technique encourages patients to ask their doctor or healthcare professional three essential questions during every consultation. The idea is to make the dialogue between the patient and the caregiver more effective and transparent.

The three recommended questions are: "What is my main problem?", "What do I need to do to treat it?" and "Why is it important for me to do this?". By using this method, the authorities hope to reduce misunderstandings and help patients better follow their treatments on a daily basis.

This campaign aims to make the healthcare system more accessible to all Belgians, regardless of their age or background. By fostering better communication, the FPS Public Health wishes to strengthen trust between citizens and the medical profession, while improving the overall quality of care in the country.
