Public Health: A new campaign to communicate better with your doctor
The FPS Public Health will soon launch a new national campaign in Belgium. The main objective is to improve "health literacy," which is the ability of every citizen to understand medical information in order to make informed decisions regarding their own health.
At the heart of this initiative is the simple and effective method called "Ask Me 3." This approach encourages patients to ask their doctor or healthcare professional three essential questions during every consultation. The idea is to reduce misunderstandings and make the dialogue between the patient and the caregiver more fluid.
The three recommended questions are as follows: "What is my main problem?", "What do I need to do to treat it?" and "Why is it important for me to do this?". By using these questions, patients can better understand their diagnosis and follow their treatment with more confidence.
This campaign is particularly aimed at people who sometimes feel lost when faced with medical jargon or who do not dare to ask for clarification. By facilitating communication, the FPS Public Health hopes to improve the quality of care and patient safety throughout Belgian territory.
Health authorities remind citizens that asking questions is not a sign of weakness, but a necessary step for better care. The campaign will soon be visible in medical offices, hospitals, and on social media to raise awareness among as many citizens as possible.
