Belgium to ban flavors in electronic cigarettes starting in 2028
The Belgian government has announced a significant measure to protect public health. Starting in September 2028, the sale of electronic cigarettes with attractive flavors will be officially banned throughout the national territory.
This new regulation primarily aims to reduce the appeal of vaping among the youth. According to the authorities, fruity or sweet flavors often encourage adolescents to start smoking, which poses a major risk to their long-term health.
It is important to note, however, that this ban does not apply to all products. Electronic cigarettes that retain a classic tobacco flavor will remain authorized for sale. This exception allows adult smokers who wish to use electronic cigarettes as a smoking cessation tool to continue having access to them.
This decision is part of a broader effort by Belgium to fight against smoking and its consequences. By limiting the variety of flavors available, the country hopes to make vaping less seductive for non-smokers and thus decrease the number of new nicotine consumers in the coming years.
