Jasper Philipsen aims for revenge after fourth place in season opener
Belgian cyclist Jasper Philipsen has started a new season, but the beginning did not go quite as hoped. During the opening race, the sprinter from Ham had to settle for fourth place. The victory went to the Italian Jonathan Milan of the Lidl-Trek team.
Although Philipsen is known as one of the fastest riders in the peloton, he fell just short of the podium in the first stage. The race showed that the competition is very strong this year. For Philipsen, the priority now is to sharpen his form and fight for the win again in the upcoming races.
Notable is the dynamic within his team, Alpecin-Deceuninck. Philipsen rides for the same team as world champion Mathieu van der Poel. In sprint preparations and tactical finales, the two teammates must remain well-coordinated so as not to hinder each other's chances.
In the coming weeks, several important races are on the schedule where Philipsen can prove his speed once again. Cycling fans in Belgium are already looking forward to the next confrontation between the top sprinters, hoping that the Belgian rider will then reach the top step of the podium.
