Security in Oman: FPS Foreign Affairs updates its travel advice
The Federal Public Service (FPS) Foreign Affairs has recently updated its recommendations for Belgians wishing to travel to Oman. This decision follows the growing instability in the Middle East region. For Belgian travelers, it is now essential to be well-informed before planning a stay in this country.
Oman is located in a particularly sensitive geographical area. According to the Belgian authorities, current regional tensions could influence the local security situation in an unpredictable manner. Although the country is traditionally considered a calm destination, the Belgian government believes that increased vigilance is necessary to ensure the safety of its nationals.
The ministry strongly recommends that Belgian citizens register on the "Travellers Online" portal before their departure. This free service allows the FPS Foreign Affairs to locate and contact Belgians in the event of a crisis or major emergency abroad. It is a valuable tool for receiving real-time information on security developments.
On-site, it is advised to remain discreet and avoid public gatherings or demonstrations. Travelers must closely follow local news and scrupulously respect the instructions given by the Omani authorities. It is also recommended to keep identity documents close at hand and to stay in regular contact with relatives in Belgium.
In conclusion, the safety of travelers remains the absolute priority of the Belgian government. Before any travel to Oman or neighboring countries, it is essential to regularly consult the official website of the FPS Foreign Affairs. Thorough preparation and a good understanding of the risks allow for travel with greater peace of mind despite a complex regional context.
