Online tax returns: recurring outages worry Belgian taxpayers
Many Belgian citizens are currently encountering difficulties accessing their tax documents. The digital platforms "MyMinfin" and "Tax-on-web," managed by the FPS Finance, are experiencing recurring technical issues just as taxpayers are attempting to file their annual tax returns.
These malfunctions are preventing users from logging in normally or validating their forms within the required deadlines. This situation is causing growing frustration among citizens who wish to be in good standing with the tax authorities. The repetition of these IT outages raises questions about the reliability of the digital tools implemented by the State.
Faced with this instability, some experts and taxpayer representatives are beginning to mention the possibility of legal action against the FPS Finance. The main argument is that these incidents happen too often, making the obligation to file difficult, if not impossible, for a portion of the population despite their good intentions.
For the moment, the FPS Finance has not yet provided a definitive solution to guarantee smooth and permanent access to its services. Authorities recommend that citizens try again later in the event of a blockage, but this response is deemed insufficient by users who fear missing the filing deadline.
The situation therefore remains under observation. Taxpayers are advised to keep proof of their connection attempts, such as screenshots in the event of an error message, in order to protect themselves in the event of a future dispute with the administration.
