CBD remains strictly prohibited in food products in Belgium
The Federal Public Service (FPS) Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment recently reiterated an important rule regarding the consumption of CBD. In Belgium, as in the rest of the European Union, the addition of cannabidiol (CBD) to foodstuffs is strictly prohibited.
This ban applies to all food products, including food supplements, drinks, or candies that contain CBD-based ingredients. According to health authorities, no authorization has been granted to market these substances in the human food sector.
The Belgian authorities have expressed serious concerns regarding the effects of CBD on consumer health. In the absence of sufficient scientific studies and evidence of long-term safety, the FPS Health prefers to apply the precautionary principle to protect the population.
Belgian consumers are therefore advised to remain vigilant when making purchases, particularly online or in certain specialized stores. It is important to check the composition of food products and not to consume items containing CBD, as they do not meet current food safety standards.
In conclusion, the legislation remains very clear: CBD is not an authorized ingredient in food. Authorities continue to monitor the market to ensure that products sold comply with these strict rules in order to guarantee the health of all citizens.
