Berlaar opens new rainbow crosswalks as a symbol of inclusivity
In the municipality of Berlaar, two new rainbow crosswalks were officially put into use on Friday. The colorful crossings are located at a busy intersection, specifically at the Aarschotsebaan and the Kardinaal Cardijnplein.
With this initiative, the municipal council wants to send a clear signal to residents and visitors. The crosswalks in the colors of the rainbow flag symbolize diversity and acceptance. With this, the council emphasizes that everyone, regardless of origin or orientation, is welcome in the municipality.
The choice for this location was made consciously, as it is a central spot where many people pass by. By installing the crosswalks in a visible place, the municipality hopes to stimulate the conversation about tolerance and respect in society.
The inauguration of the crosswalks was welcomed positively by the local government. The project fits into a broader vision of the municipality to create a safe and open environment for all citizens. The new markings are now fully ready for use by pedestrians.
