Violent storms hit central Belgium
Central Belgium was hit by particularly intense storms this Tuesday. These unstable weather conditions caused heavy rainfall in a very short time, leading to significant disruptions in several provinces.
Emergency services were in high demand throughout the day. Numerous interventions were necessary to pump water out of flooded basements and to clear roads blocked by tree branches that had fallen due to the force of the wind.
Road traffic was also significantly slowed, particularly on the major routes around Brussels. Authorities recommend that motorists adjust their speed and remain vigilant, as roads remain slippery and some low-lying areas may still pose risks of water accumulation.
Forecasters at the Royal Meteorological Institute (RMI) are monitoring the situation closely. Although the intensity of the storms is gradually decreasing, caution remains advised for the coming hours. Citizens are advised to regularly check weather updates before traveling.
The situation is expected to stabilize during the night. Municipal services are currently hard at work cleaning the roads and ensuring a return to normal as quickly as possible for all residents in the affected areas.
