Tension on the Roads: Family Truck Attacked with Stones on the Oruro–La Paz Route
A serious incident of violence recently occurred on the highway connecting the cities of Oruro and La Paz. A group of protesters blocking the route attacked a cargo truck with stones. This event has generated great concern among citizens who need to travel on the country's main roads.
The driver of the vehicle was not traveling alone at the time of the attack. According to reports, he was accompanied by his wife and young daughter. The attackers threw large stones at the vehicle, without considering that inside the truck was a civilian family simply trying to reach their destination.
As a consequence of the act of vandalism, the truck's front windshield was completely destroyed. Although no physical injuries of extreme gravity were reported, the impact and the noise of the broken glass caused moments of panic and distress for the woman and the girl who were in the cabin.
These types of blockades and protests are frequent in the region, but violence against private vehicles has increased social tension. Local authorities have received criticism for the lack of security on national routes, where drivers feel vulnerable to the groups carrying out these pressure measures.
For the moment, the situation on the route between Oruro and La Paz remains unstable. Travelers are recommended to inform themselves about the state of the roads before leaving and to exercise great caution when approaching conflict points. The police are seeking to identify those responsible for this attack to prevent future similar incidents.
