Bolivia seeks solutions to the blockade crisis as international tension grows

Bolivia is experiencing moments of high political and social tension due to the conflicts affecting the country. The national government and various social sectors are seeking to unblock the situation through dialogue. The Catholic Church is acting as one of the facilitating organizations to resolve the blockades that mainly affect the cities of La Paz and El Alto. In this context, Senator Tomasa Yarhui emphasized that leaders with real decision-making power must attend the meetings to achieve real agreements, while the country prepares for the Economic and Social Council convened at the Casa Grande del Pueblo.

In the legal and political sphere, President Rodrigo Paz promulgated the repeal of Law 1341, which regulated the state of exception. This change has generated an intense national debate, as some civic sectors and producers demand that the state of exception be applied to face the current crisis and guarantee free transit on the highways, where blockades persist despite negotiation attempts.

The health sector is one of the most affected by this situation of instability. Doctors and hospital workers announced a march for this Thursday in the city of La Paz. Their main demand is the immediate cessation of the blockades, as the lack of oxygen, medicines, and basic medical supplies is putting patient care and the operation of hospital centers at serious risk.

The human consequences of the blockades are increasingly visible and dramatic. The difficult situation of a mother in El Alto has been reported, who had to overcome multiple obstacles and walk long distances to take her sick son to the Children's Hospital. Likewise, a firefighter recounted the extreme difficulties in helping an elderly woman with a fracture in Huajchilla, who had to be evacuated on foot by rescuers due to the impossibility of traveling by vehicle.

The family economy also suffers the direct impact of the conflicts on the highways. In the city of Sucre, great instability in the prices of basic foods has been reported. While the price of potatoes has risen and the cost of locoto has tripled, the prices of beef and chicken have fallen due to transport difficulties. Meanwhile, the price of tomatoes remains stable for the moment.

On the other hand, Deputy Minister Justiniano warned that the current conflict, driven by groups demanding the president's resignation, indirectly benefits drug trafficking. According to the authority, the blockades organized by sectors close to Evo Morales, peasants, and rural teachers generate a scenario of chaos that hinders control and security efforts in various areas of Bolivian territory.

Finally, on the international scene, tension is increasing significantly between Russia and Ukraine. Russia's representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, urged foreign citizens and diplomatic personnel to leave the city of Kyiv as soon as possible. This warning comes as a retaliatory measure following recent attacks in the region, marking a new escalation in the military conflict.
