Tension in Bolivia due to blockades and economic crisis, while Peru issues health alert

The situation in San Julián, Bolivia, is critical following a police operation carried out to clear blocked roads. During the confrontation, seven people were injured: six police officers and one community member who had to undergo emergency surgery due to serious head injuries. The police attempted to clear the routes to restore traffic, but the violence in the area has hindered security efforts.

After the uniformed officers withdrew from San Julián, the local police station suffered severe damage and looting. According to reports, several people entered the building and took furniture, computers, mattresses, and vehicles that were under police custody. This incident reflects the level of chaos and lack of control experienced in some regions of the country due to current social conflicts.

Faced with this instability, the Chamber of Deputies is scheduled to debate a bill today regarding states of emergency. The government has hardened its stance and announced that it will use constitutional mechanisms to restore order following the unblocking operations. However, Vice President Edmand Lara expressed his loyalty to the people and showed his rejection of a state of emergency, calling it the last possible option and justifying the failure to fulfill some government offers.

On the other hand, in the city of El Alto, social leaders have stated that they are not afraid of a possible state of emergency. Following a town hall meeting organized in District 7, protesters warned that they will face off in the streets and called for the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz. The mobilized sectors ensure that they will radicalize their pressure measures if the government attempts to use the military or police to stop the protests.

The blockades are seriously affecting the economy and food supply in several regions. In Cochabamba, the price of tomatoes has risen drastically, reaching up to 500 bolivianos per box. Merchants explain that products arrive with up to four days of delay, causing shortages in markets and an abrupt increase in the prices of the basic family basket.

Due to this economic crisis, a crowd of citizens took to the streets of Cochabamba to demand an end to the protests. Under the slogan "Unblock now," transporters, doctors, producers, and neighbors joined together to ask for free transit to be guaranteed. Protesters pointed out that the lack of food and fuel is suffocating the population and demand an immediate solution to normalize life in the country.

Finally, in the international sphere, Peru has issued an epidemiological alert due to the high risk of measles spreading. The Ministry of Health of that country is concerned because Peru will soon hold high-attendance events, such as a second round of elections and regional festivities in Cusco. Peruvian authorities recommend taking extreme precautions to avoid a massive outbreak during these crowded activities.
