More than 2,000 trucks trapped by road blockades in Bolivia
The situation on Bolivia's roads has become critical in recent days. Due to constant road blockades at various points across the country, more than 2,000 heavy transport trucks are trapped, unable to reach their destinations. This crisis is generating great concern both in the logistics sector and among the drivers' families.
Herland Melgar, a leader in the heavy transport sector, described an alarming scenario during a recent interview. Melgar explained that drivers are experiencing extreme conditions on the roads. With a forceful statement, the leader asserted: “We don’t want to take drivers out in coffins,” referring to the danger workers face due to the lack of food, water, and medical care while waiting on the blocked routes.
The impact of this situation affects not only the transporters but also the supply of basic products in several regions. Many of the detained trucks are carrying perishable food and essential supplies that are at risk of being lost. This has led to a price increase in local markets and growing uncertainty regarding the stability of national and international trade.
Representatives of the transport sector are calling on authorities and the groups carrying out the blockades to seek a peaceful and urgent solution. According to the leaders, the safety of the drivers must be the absolute priority in this conflict. Meanwhile, economic losses for the country continue to rise every day that the roads remain closed.
For now, the conflict continues without a clear resolution. Transporters hope that dialogue between the parties involved will allow the roads to be cleared as soon as possible. The international community and Bolivian citizens are closely watching the development of these events, hoping that the right to free transit and the safety of all workers will be guaranteed.
