BNDES and Vale launch R$ 1 billion fund for critical minerals in Brazil

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the mining company Vale recently announced the creation of a strategic investment fund. The main objective of this initiative is to support the exploration of critical minerals in Brazilian territory, elements that are essential for modern technology.

The fund aims to mobilize up to R$ 1 billion in resources for the sector. The partnership is led by BNDESPar, the bank's investment arm, in conjunction with Vale. The idea is to also attract other private investors to increase the available capital and strengthen the national mineral industry.

So-called "critical minerals," such as lithium, copper, and nickel, have gained great importance in recent years. They are fundamental components for the manufacturing of electric vehicle batteries and for the production of clean energy equipment, such as solar panels and wind turbines.

With this new financial incentive, Brazil seeks to position itself as a strategic supplier in the global renewable energy market. The fund is expected to focus especially on supporting small and medium-sized mining companies, allowing new research and extraction projects to be developed with more agility.

Experts believe that the launch of this fund represents an important step for the Brazilian economy. By joining forces between the public and private sectors, the country hopes to modernize its infrastructure and generate new jobs, contributing directly to the global energy transition in the coming years.
