Spanish company Acciona wins sanitation auction in Paraíba
The Spanish company Acciona recently won the auction for a new public-private partnership (PPP) for sewage in the state of Paraíba. The event was held at the stock exchange headquarters and represents an important step forward for the region's infrastructure. Acciona was the only company to submit an official proposal for the project by Cagepa, the state's water and sewage company.
This victory marks the Spanish group's fourth major contract in Brazil's basic sanitation sector. In recent years, Acciona has shown growing interest in the Brazilian market, taking advantage of changes in laws that facilitate the entry of private capital into public services. With this new project, the company consolidates its position as one of the main international operators in the country.
The main objective of this partnership is to expand and modernize sewage services in several cities in Paraíba. Through private investment, the quality of service is expected to improve significantly, ensuring that a larger portion of the population has access to basic hygiene services. Cagepa will continue to act as the public partner, while Acciona will be responsible for operations and technology works.
The success of this auction is seen by experts as a positive sign for the sanitation sector in Brazil. The country has the goal of universalizing access to treated water and sewage by the year 2033, which requires billions of reais in investment. The arrival of large international groups helps accelerate this process and brings more efficiency to the management of water resources in the Northeast.
