Experts warn: Peak of West Nile virus expected in Bulgaria
Health experts in Bulgaria are warning of an increased risk of West Nile virus in the coming weeks. According to specialists, the peak of the disease is expected to occur during August and the first half of September. It is likely that the virus is already circulating within the country.
West Nile virus is primarily transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes. In most cases, the infection is mild or asymptomatic, but for some people, it can lead to more serious complications. Symptoms often include high fever, headache, muscle aches, and rashes.
Doctors advise citizens to take precautionary measures to reduce the risk of bites. It is recommended to use insect repellents, wear long-sleeved clothing and long pants during hours when mosquitoes are most active, and install screens on windows.
Although there is no specific cure for the virus, early diagnosis and timely consultation with a doctor are of great importance. Health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are urging people to be cautious, especially when staying near bodies of water or parks, where the mosquito population is higher.
