New data on air pollution from TPP Bobov Dol
The organization Greenpeace Bulgaria has published alarming data regarding the operation of TPP Bobov Dol. According to the information released, the power plant is responsible for serious violations of environmental standards at the beginning of 2026.
Analysis of the data shows that within a period of just 21 days, five cases of exceeded sulfur dioxide (SO2) levels were recorded. Furthermore, two instances of exceeding the permissible concentrations of fine particulate matter (PM) in the area were also reported.
These values are an indicator of serious air pollution, which directly affects the health of people living near the power plant. Environmentalists emphasize that toxicity levels in the region remain critically high due to the facility's operations.
At present, trade union organizations and the plant's management have not officially confirmed the data, and discussions on the topic are underway. The situation is causing serious concern among local residents and environmental advocates in the country.
Institutions responsible for environmental control are expected to conduct further inspections into the case. The topic remains relevant, as air quality is one of the main priorities for public health in Bulgaria.
